South African Wine Laboratory Association

Our aim is to improve the quality of wine laboratories in South Africa, as well as the standardisation of methodology in these labs. In the process we want to provide a forum for communication and access to information.

The second, revised edition of our handbook, Methods of Analysis for Wine Laboratories, is now ready for print.  The new handbooks should be available at the end of the year.

Web based proficiency testing

SAWLA administers a monthly proficiency wine analysis round in a ground breaking open source web-based inter-laboratory LIMS.

Participating laboratories receive similar samples from a central distribution point and then have a week to analyse and submit their results on-line.

Password secured cumulative results, statistical parameters, distribution and historical performance graphs are made available on the web and returned by e-mail in anonymous format to member laboratories.
